2022

HERDACHT

In March 2022 I was asked by Kunstlokaal Sam to participate in a local project about the region Achterhoek, Gelderland. Together with 9 other artists we created an exhibition about our expierence with the achterhoek; The culture, growing up and the nature.

I grew up in the countryside of Harreveld. In my youth I spent a lot of time in the forest next to my parental home together with my brothers and friends. While searching for a suitable square meter for this project, I went back to this forest and my eye fell on the drawings I carved in the bark of the trees as a child. These drawings got me thinking about how important it is for people to leave a personal mark on a particular location. In the streets, for example, you see many stickers or graffiti tags of people who want to show that they have been present in these places.
In addition, anno 2022, the majority of the population shares their personal experiences on social media. This can also be seen as a digital "tag.

Why does everyone want to be remembered so much?

This resulted in a digital forest in which the presence of the visitor influences the activity on the digital trees. In this artwork, I want to show that you subconsciously always leave an impression. The visitor influences the end result. In this way, I hope to get visitors thinking about how you want to be remembered and why.
